Good news!

I had my big craft show this weekend and let me just say....IT WAS A SUCCESS! I was so excited, it exceeded my expectations. It looks like Sweet Tater and Co. will be around for a little bit longer. Now I just have to get all my ducks in a row for this to be a legitimate business because I see success in my future. That means that I have to start charging tax. I told myself that I was going to take the rest of the year off, but I am so excited about some ideas that I have, that I am getting back to the sewing machine tonight. I have some some really amazing material that I can't wait to work with. It is more expensive, but hopefully I will be able to get it at a decent price and be able to keep my prices low. My goal is to provide quality, handmade, baby items for an affordable price. There are still a few of us moms out there that really like the handmade items and would like to able to afford them. I also am going to try my hand at making pillowcase dresses. I love them and want to see my daughter in them ALL summer. I am going to try one tonight and let you know how it goes. If all goes well, I will be offering those in '09, if not, then I won't. Wish me luck.

Also, I would like to send a plug out for Tickled Pink Monogramming. You can visit her site at tickledpinkmonogramming.com. She has some super cute items on her site. I am just trying to spread the word for moms who love personalized items.

vintage material

Finally! After talking about them FOREVER, I get them made and posted. This is some GREAT vintage material that I found a while back in MS, but didn't buy...luckily, I found it online and snatched it real quick! I have made blankets out of these materials....obviously by the picture of the crib. I posted that picture so you can see just how big the blankets are. They are not quite a full yard. Each blanket is a cotton front with a flannel back. The Santa material has a red back, the children playing (on blue) has a buttercream flannel back, and the ballerinas have an oatmeal colored back. They are so cute, if I do say so myself. Each blanket is $20 and I have two of each.

Hi Ho Hi Ho, It's off to work I go

Wow! I am so busy these days...I almost couldn't tell you what day it is. I am sure that I would have to stop and think about it. Sheesh!

Well, I had my small "in office" craft show for all our State Attorney staff. I am thinking this is not the year for buying crafts. I made one sale and one semi sale...meaning I was told to put it aside and she would catch me later. This could be good and bad. On one hand, I am disappointed that I didn't really sell much, but on the other hand, I have a good inventory for my BIG, BIG, BIG show next weekend. Oh well...we live and we learn. My dear husband keeps telling me, "it's not the product, it's the limited market for the product." God love him...he's trying. I guess he is right though...not that many people like handmade stuff anymore. I did have a couple tell me that my burp cloths would be GREAT kitchen towels. Ha,ha!

Anyway, I said I would give it a year. That won't be until February, so we shall see. I still have the O'Connell Center after Thanksgiving, so keep your fingers crossed for me.

just for fun....

I started out doing these just for myself...because since having a girl, I am getting into girly stuff...I wanted to spruce up my cheapo picture frames. I have a couple of these at work and people seem to love them, so.....I am now offering them to the public. If you would like a cheapo, spruced up acrylic picture frame, they are $2.

Collegiate inspired bows

I have had requests for Orange and Blue bows, so that inspired me to expand on that concept. I have ribbon for the following teams, but can accomodate most requests: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Ohio State.

Christmas Bows

Christmas Bows have arrived! I am pleased to introduce my Christmas Tree bows. The bow on top can be made with red, silver or gold ribbon. If you want something totally non traditional, I can probably do whatever you want....pink, purple, yellow....you name it. They are made with alligator clips so they will stay in that fine hair. They are fun, stylish and perfect for babies or toddlers.

Back in action

Lord! How long has it been since I have been on here! Well, I have been busy, busy, busy getting ready for all kinds of stuff. I have added a few new items to the list...blankets, bibs, and a different type of hairbow....for toddlers. I am getting ready for the big craft festival at the O'Connell Center. I will be sure to get some pictures up here as soon as I can. Business is fair, orders here and there.....enough to keep me busy between those and 2 craft shows coming up. Anyway, I am back up and running online. I promise to keep this up to snuff, as they say, posting new items and events. Hope to see you guys soon.

My second Sweet Tater event...

....sucked as well! My goal was to double my sales from my first evet....mission accomplished! I did sell 7 things, but that still wasn't enough to cover the total of the space rental. Luckily my dad and I split it, eventhough I told him not to pay me. Oh well, I guess you have to test the waters. I know that I have a good product, my "word of mouth" sales are pretty good, but I can't get going at festivals and stuff like that. Ugh! My next show that I hope to do is the Craft Show at the O'Connell Center. I think that is going to be more my speed....or at least I hope.

I have given some people really great idea's though. They took pictures and everything.

The first Sweet Tater event.....

.....sucked! Oh well! I got in there, got my feet wet and saw what it was like. I had TONS of people tell me how cute my stuff is, some thought it was overpriced....the windows at least. Some stole my idea....right in front of my face....that's OK though. That just means that it was a great idea. I learned a lot......I learned that I need patience. I really thought that I was going to do very well my first time out. I have to admit that I am surprised that I only made one sale. That's OK, one is better than none. I have a nice sized inventory now, I don't have to bust my hump again for the couple of orders that I have waiting. I think that I may try another show in May, the Windsor Zucchini Festival. I can see how that goes. I am not giving up just yet. This is not the last of Sweet Tater!

Finally!!!

Seriously! I finally get a chance to get on here and talk.... now that I have little bit of time, I might not shut up.

So, things are good with Sweet Tater & Co. I have been in business for a little over a month and have made my first $100. I actually made that in my first 3 weeks, but things have slowed down in the last couple of weeks. I took a much needed mini vaca to the home state of Mississippi to hang with the coolest gals ever for a few hours. I swear the flights were longer than my stay, but whatever, I had a good time.

Anyway, ST&C is expanding. The burp cloths have been a huge success, now it is time to move on to other things. I am now making bows. I make baby bows for $2. Those are made with alligator clips so they will stay in that super fine baby hair. And let's face it, there is more to life than pink, purple and white....we need some polka dots...and some blacks and browns and plaids! I am also making big girl bows for $5. These are for the more sophisticated little lady. These can come in pretty much whatever you want. However, I am finding it a little hard to find some solid colors in grosgrain....just FYI.

Next will come the bibs and blankets. Now that I am back, I have to take the time to get those under way. I have great ideas!
